The White Myth
A documentary film by Gabriel Serra
Mexico | 2013 | Rating: B | Spanish language
The white myth uses the Costa Rican train to show the diversity of communities that congregate in the Central American country. It uses three cases—that of Maritza López, a Nicaraguan single mother who lives on the outskirts of the capital; Emerita Bejarano, a Ngäbe woman from Panama who works on the coffee plantations in Sabalito; and Janis Howlet, an Afro-Antillean who lives on the banks of the Costa Rican train—to dismantle the myth of the whiteness of a country, which also implies a pattern of inequities and debts with the entire population.
Attend this double feature and stay for the discussion with director Gabriel Serra.
