Event Description

Get ready for an afternoon of Cuban jazz, starring Cuba’s finest flutist Ricardo Benitez Alonso. He will present a setlist of original, unreleased compositions, accompanied by a talented ensemble on bass, drums, piano, and guitar.
Originally from CamagĂĽey, Cuba, Ricardo BenĂ­tez began studying the flute at the age of 11 at the National School of Arts in CamagĂĽey. In 1983, he continued his training under the esteemed maestro Luis Bayard at the Higher Institute of Arts in Havana. By 1984, he was invited to join the CamagĂĽey Symphony Orchestra as a soloist, marking the beginning of an exceptional musical career.
In 1986 he traveled to Mexico as a resident, dedicating himself entirely to the study of contemporary music, Jazz and Latin Jazz. During these years he worked under the tutelage of the great master and pianist Miguel Salas. During this stage he has participated in groups such as: Banco del Ruido, Viva Fidel, “V Grado”, with pianist Joao Enrique, as well as with a number of national and international artists.
After years of work he recorded his album “Charanguero” with musicians such as Osmany Paredes (piano), Braulio Stalin (bass), Miguel Valdes (percussion), Jaco Gonzalez (sax) among others. It features seven original compositions by Ricardo Benitez as well as songs by C. Parker and Miguel Valdes. His second album “Pa Malanga” with great Mexican and Cuban musicians includes works by Mexican composers such as Pepe Moran, Jose Hernandez and Victor Patron.
