Biography
Sophia Smith is a saxophone and flute player, composer and educator based in San Miguel de Allende. Sophia’s work ranges from section player to band leader, in a wide variety of styles including modern jazz, swing, big band, pop, R&B, cumbia, blues, and more. Originally from St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada, Sophia studied classical and chamber music before moving to Toronto to study jazz at Humber College. An active musician in the Toronto music scene, she formed The Sophia Smith quartet, performing original modern jazz compositions. Her full-length album of original compositions, Elevation, was released on all platforms in 2020.
